Fly
by Michael Graves
In his mind, a fly is circling ‘round a flame.
He fears that it will enter there and die.
He is obsessed with sex, much to his shame.
He has not stayed at home, nor stayed the same.
Although he has escaped, he wonders why
A filthy fly is circling ‘round a flame.
Perhaps it tells him that he still remains
A boy attracted to a mother’s lie.
He is obsessed with sex, much to his shame.
He has not had a drink for years and claims
That he now faces fears he had to fly.
A filthy fly is circling ‘round a flame.
Now full of secret fright, he’s far from tame,
He knows that there is much that he denies.
He is obsessed with much, much to his shame.
And if he fails to free himself, the blame
Will burn in him, consume his I.
In his mind, a fly is circling ‘round a flame.
He is obsessed with much, much to his shame.
